Excessive skin exposure to the sun is the main reason for the development of skin cancers, to avoid this risk, you should follow a few rules:
Gradually expose the skin to sunlight. Natural tan is the most effective and healthiest.
Avoid sunbathing between 11:00 and 16:00.
Hide to the shadows from time to time, wear clothing that protects your shoulders from burning, and a hat or hat.
Avoid direct exposure of children. They must stay in the shadows
Never leave your child in full sun, stay in the shade as much as possible under an umbrella, putting on a hat, sunglasses, T-shirt and protecting children’s skin with a high-filter cream.
Use suntan lotions designed for the right skin complexion.
Which cream should you choose?
With the advent of summer, we are wondering what sunscreen to choose. The enormity of choice on the shelves in our pharmacies and supermarkets does not give us confidence that we properly protect our children.
How to find and how to choose a product without endangering her health?
Since 2006, the European Commission has set standards for protection indicators:
Weak protection: SPF 6 to 10
Medium protection: SPF 15 to 25
High Protection SPF 30 to 50
Very high protection: SPF 50+
We advise security measures at least 30 to 50+ for infants and children, people with fair skin or sensitive skin and during the first exposure to the sun.
PROTECTION AGAINST UVA radiation
It has recently been shown that UVA rays are also responsible for skin cancer not only UVB. Until now, the level of UVA protection has not been clearly defined on sunscreen products. A new logo can be expected from 2010, which indicates that the sunscreen has a UVA protection factor and at least 1/3 UVB protection factor.
UVA products are therefore preferred.
What protective creams should be avoided?
Traditional sun care is most often formulated with chemical filters.
These filters are easy to use and cheap, but often have many disadvantages:
They are active on the skin 30 minutes after application. In this situation, spreading cream on the beach (like all of us!) Means that the protection will start to work after half an hour. It’s a lot of time.
They pose a serious risk of allergies.
They are harmful to marine ecology.
They contain hormones – estrogens, which can promote the development of cancer and cause problems with the development of genitals and the brain. First, estrogens penetrate the natural skin barrier and are found in our bodies. Research conducted as part of the national research program on “Hormone disorders” in Switzerland (KPR 50) showed the presence of these substances in breast milk.
